The Great Sichuan Earthquake occurred on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province of China. Official figures (as of July 5, 2008 ) state that 69,195 are confirmed dead, including 68,636 in Sichuan province, and 374,171 injured, with 18,389 listed as missing. The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless.

back says: Hopetees, Ai Tam daycare centre, Ho Chi Minh City. This is a day care centre in a poor area of Ho CHi Minh run by a family who live upstairs. Visited by Cassandra in 2006. Contributions have so far included a ceiling for the living quarters upstairs, teaching equipment and a fire extinguisher...necessary to pass health and safety measures, so that more kids could be taken in. Kids spend the most part of the day here, play, learn and have a meal cooked by the family. The unusual permission was granted to double the amount of kids taken in, but the necessary expansion cashflow is not there.
